It is significant for the pond owners to keep pond maintenance. After all, living creatures’ roams inside the pond. Like a human being, fish and plants inside the lake need clean and freshwater. Mainly people use filter to keep the water clean. However, filters are pretty much expensive and cause problem dependent on the climate and weather. Many people cannot afford.
So, pond contractors had to find an alternative way to encounter filter. The practical manner can be to avoid building waste inside the pond. If you don’t have a screen inside the pond, fish waste, ammonia nitrates, rotting plants, uneaten food and such thing will pollute the water. It may hurt or kill your plants and fish. Here we will guide you the steps to follow without using a filter for pond maintenance.
Do Not Overload
Never add too many fishes in a pond. Every pond has its capacity to bear the load of fish. More fishes mean, more uneaten food, more fish waste and more ammonia nitrate. Hence, you need to be practical and keep the optimal level of fishes.
Since the number of fishes is less, the amount of water will be more. So, it will keep providing you ease in pond maintenance without a filter.
As I mentioned earlier, if you start overfeeding the fishes – it will tend to more uneaten food. The food will release nitrites and ammonia, which makes your pond untidy for fishes. It can be harmful to the fishes and produce blooms of algae. Similar is true for fish waste.
Hence, you feed your fish adequate for survival and do not spoil the food and fish health as they will not consume much of it. It will also save your food and time on pond maintenance.
Change Water Periodically or Regularly
If you don’t have a filter, try practising to change the water regularly or periodically – depending on your pond size. It is a great practice to clean fish waste, uneaten food, algae, rotting plants, and dead fish as they all release ammonia which is dangerous for plants and fish health. You may have to remove decoration, ornaments, and plants from the water after some time and go for thorough cleaning.
Use A UV Sterilizer
It is beneficial for pond maintenance. Since algae need a considerable amount of sunlight to blossom and exponentially grow, a UV sterilizer neutralizes the sunlight and keeps your pond algae free. Algae tend to suffocation of plants and fishes. Moreover, it also has an unpleasant and unsightly smell.
